B. Deutsch’s (of LeftyCartoons) response to the “picking and choosing of the bible”
I just knew that this episode was going to bring the Nice Guy™ sympathizers out of the woodwork.
- Korra isn’t attracted to Bolin, and attraction isn’t something that can be forced. Let me repeat: Attraction can not be forced.
- Bolin wasn’t the only one who got shot down. Korra also ultimately did not get the guy she was interested in. The implication that only men suffer from “friend zoning” (unrequited love or attraction) is ridiculous. Women get rejected too.
- Women don’t owe men dates or sex or a relationship as a reward for their “niceness”. Being nice is basic human decency.
The people in this fandom who are bashing and maligning Korra (calling her a “bitch” or a “slut”) for who she is or who she isn’t attracted to need to think long and hard about what bullshit they’ve internalized.
(And ugh, the asinine quote in the image came from Brotips. Seriously guys, that is not a good tip. It is a red flag for spotting jerks.)

OMG :UUUU
I think this episode shows a mature way (minus noodles in the nose) Bolin treats his rejection. He gets over it, he stays friends with Korra and says they’re still cool. He never blames Korra for friendzoning him, he blames Mako for lying about him not having feelings for Korra. I made sure to watch this segment multiple times and the creators did a great job with this scene. It could have easily turned into a Korra bashing episode, but it showed that love is complicated and people are hard to understand. Everyone stays friends and each other’s feelings are made known.
Michelangelo’s Pietà was completed in 1499. After it was installed in the Chapel of Santa Petronilla, Michelangelo overheard someone attribute the sculpture to Cristoforo Solari, whereupon he signed it along the sash across Mary’s chest. It remains the only work that he ever signed.
Pietà has suffered a fair amount of damage over the years. Four of Mary’s fingers were broken in the 18th century, and they were restored in 1736 by Giuseppe Lirioni. Some scholars believe Lirioni took liberties with the restoration, making Mary’s gesture more “rhetorical”.
The worst damage occurred in 1972, when Hungarian-born geologist Laszlo Toth attacked the sculpture with a geologist’s hammer, striking fifteen blows while shouting “I am Jesus Christ, risen from the dead!” Toth was subdued only after breaking Mary’s arm, removing a substantial portion of her nose and chipping one of her eyelids. He was hospitalised for two years in Italy before being deported to Australia, where he had been studying.
Many of the pieces that Toth broke off the sculpture were never recovered, including her nose, which had to be reconstructed from a section of marble removed from Mary’s back.
Pietà is now protected by bulletproof glass.
